Privacy notice
Last updated October 13, 2026
In short
- We use what you give us to contact you about joining.
- We don't sell it or share it for advertising.
- Email us any time to see, correct or delete it.
About this notice
This notice explains what Mairit, Inc. ("we" or "us"), the company that operates By the Matter, collects on bythematter.com and what we do with it. Our terms of use cover how you may use the site.
What we collect
- What you give us. Your first and last name, email, mobile number, the states where you are admitted, and how you practice.
- Your agreement. That you agreed to our terms and read this notice, which version of the terms you saw, and when.
- What your browser and our systems record. The page you signed up on, the page that sent you here, any campaign tags or referral code in the link you followed, your browser type, how long the form took to fill in, and an ID for your sign-up. Our hosting provider also receives your IP address in standard server logs.
How we use it
We use the details you give us to contact you about joining. That includes confirming your admission and good standing against the state's attorney records, and emailing you as we open new states.
Only someone on our team will call or text your mobile number, and only about your sign-up. We don't send marketing texts or make automated calls.
We use what your browser and our systems record to see which links bring lawyers to the site and to keep the form free of spam.
What we don't do
We don't sell your information or share it for advertising. The site uses no advertising or analytics cookies.
Our site doesn't respond to Do Not Track signals. We don't track you across other websites or let others do so, except that Google Fonts receives your IP address when a page loads.
Who we share it with
- Service providers that run the site for us: Cloudflare, which hosts the site, and Google, which stores sign-ups in Google Sheets and sends our emails.
- People who work with us, including contractors, when they need it to run the early list. Sign-up alerts go to a Google group limited to Mairit staff.
- Anyone we must share it with by law, and a buyer or successor if our business is sold or merged.
Where it is processed
We and our service providers may process your information in the United States, the United Arab Emirates and other countries where our team works.
How long we keep it
We keep your details until you ask us to delete them or we close the early list, whichever comes first. We keep a record of your agreement to our terms, and of any request to stop contacting you, for up to four years after you leave the list, to show we followed the law. If you go on to accept our listing terms, the platform's privacy notice applies from then.
Your choices
Email support@bythematter.com to see, correct or delete the information you gave us, or to leave the list. We reply within 30 days.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information. No website is completely secure.
Children
The site is for licensed lawyers and is not meant for anyone under 18.
Changes to this notice
